One-Man-Band, Cousin Curtiss’s Rootstomp shows are contagious with enthusiasm, energy, and toe-tapping-foot-stomping-hand-clapping goodness proving that Rootstomp music is a raw blend of Folk, Blues, and Bluegrass without the twang.

Rootstomp music is an interesting conversation between guitars, bass, drums, and sometimes the harmonica wants the floor.

Cousin Curtiss has a Ph.D. in Rootstomp music and his lectures are dripping with juicy knowledge..

Live Music: Amy Coffman

Born in Dallas, TX and longtime bassist for one of that city’s very first Americana bands, Amy Coffman followed her dreams further west and now calls Amarillo, Texas home.  A fan of stringed things, she alternates on bass & guitar in the notable Amarillo songwriting combo, The DustJackets, and plays banjo for veteran Amarillo entertainer, Andy Chase.  She annually learns the same five chords on mandolin before hanging it back up each year.

After years as a sideman, in 2012 she began performing solo shows, and in 2013 released the full-length album, THE MORE THINGS CHANGE.  The album, recorded in Nashville and produced by Celeste Krenz, has been described by reviewer Ross Barber as 'an organic, authentic record...a strong selection of songs/stories by a talented singer-songwriter' and by Krenz as 'a great album.' High Plains Public Radio Music Director Mike Fuller had this to say:  “Really strong songs--personal, insightful lyrics that make me want to know more about the characters...a nice addition to our playlist!”  The CD was spotlighted recently by Panhandle PBS, and has received national airplay on NPR’s The Folk Sampler.  A dedicated songsmith, she has twice had songs place in the prestigious Walnut Valley Festival ("Winfield") NewSongs competition, and has earned Honorable Mention the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival songwriting competition. Amy's music can be heard on Pandora, Spotify, and youtube.

She is currently at work on her second album, but still doesn’t play mandolin.

Live Music: Bit Nova

Formed in the depths of BitNova Studios, three friends came together to create sultry indie pop melodies to bring balance to the disequilibrium of the human state and soothe their psyche as they considered these modern days. Bouncing between catchy hooks influenced by indie rock, folk, and hints of electro-pop bliss, BitNova’s songs are as listenable as they are original. They are inspired by decades of musical tradition and fluid talks of a robot catalyzed salvation from modern idiocracy and senseless drudgery. Choruses of soulful lyrics floated through Bitnova’s consciousness to create beautiful music to soothe the unbridled expanse of an ever changing world.

Live Music: Smelter Mountain Boys

Smelter Mountain Boys are a new bluegrass collaboration in Durango featuring some familiar faces of the area's music scene as well as some brand new ones.

Mostnotably Corey Clark whose voice and songs beckon to bluegrass music origins and roots. After some time with Clinton Gregory Bluegrass Band out of Nashville, TN, Corey Clark moved to Durango, CO and quickly met some local pickers who all saw an opportunity to fill a void of more traditional bluegrass, apart from the progressive sounds so pervasive in Colorado today.

Corey formed the Smelter Mountain Boys with; Brendan Shafer of Six Dollar String Band on banjo, this project lets Brendan focus on bluegrass style 3 finger picking, Steve Labowskie on bass (formerly of the Scrugglers) who is stretching out on a full Kay bass instead of the washtub he's mostly known for, Pete Donahue on mandolin was raised on Colorado bluegrass and the festival circuit. Peter draws from many musical genres outside bluegrass, he also shreds electric guitar and co-founded local infamous punk band, Your Bones. Tony Holmquist also frequently joins in on fiddle.

Together the boys play play a energized, some even say radioactive, traditional style of bluegrass chock full of high lonesome vocals and blistering instrumental breaks steeped in the mountain tradition.

Live Music: Herb Folsom & Friends

His debut album has an acoustic blues and swing style. Observational lyrics will either make you laugh or think for a minute.

The title track “Big Buffet (pronounced buh-FAY) focuses on Southern food indulgences, and “Wake up Dead” reminds us to not take life too seriously.

Folsom’s bluesy guitar playing blends well with his commentary on the absurdities of life. He takes on conformism in “Kids, House, Pension,” and expresses reverence for the natural world in “Above John’s Canyon,” and the island-inspired “Enjoy It.” —The Cortez Journal

DANCE MONKEY DANCE!

featuring Doug Dicharry

Dance Monkey Dance! was formed out of the necessity to create. Doug Dicharry spent years honing his chops in a successful international touring band, but needed to get back to his roots and rediscover his love for playing music. Even while becoming a talented multi-intsrumentalist (drums, trombone, trumpet, mandolin, washboard, spoons), he decided to pick up the guitar and has been obsessively writing songs since.

The guitar laid the foundation for what would become the core of DMD, but Doug craved a driving beat….so he built the STOMPSTAGE. It’s an amplified mobile stage, which creates two unique percussive sounds: *boom – crack!* With soulful vocals, percussive guitar, loop rigs and the steady stompstage backbeat, he has penned an evolving repertoire of songs.

Dance Monkey Dance! is the perfect name, because this monkey is literally dancing while playing for you.

He has played for the Governor of Colorado, heads of the National Endowment for the Arts and Americans for the Arts, and acclaimed cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Alicia is a singer and songwriter who is passionate about the power of music. She prefers to sing to people, as opposed to singing at them. Alicia does everything in her power to connect with her audience through memories, experiences, and passion. In a world where music can be “made” at the push of a button, Alicia is an advocate of bringing society back to its roots through the experience of pure, raw music. Alicia has always been profoundly influenced by the likes of Patty Griffin, the Indigo Girls, and Susan Tedeschi – all strong female vocalists and songwriters. She takes inspiration from stories, places, and memories to craft songs that draw listeners into an emotional journey. “These are songs about moments – moments that seem fleeting at the time, but we soon come to see them as a major turning point in our lives – that these small moments represent so much more.” Stockman described.
